Rig a Jig – December Christmas / Solstice Club Night

Energetic eclectic Celtic Music, with traditional tunes from the roots of the British Isles: Irish, Welsh, Scott, English, and beyond. The band members have many musical backgrounds, and a variety of influences are woven thru the texture of the melodies. Fiddle, guitar, bass, concertina, banjo, and dulcimer combine with Molly’s washboard “rhythm contraption” to make a fun-filled, toe-tappin performance.

Rig-A-Jig is a band with a lot to offer. Their vocals are backed up by fiddle, banjo, guitar, bass and washboard rhythms making it the perfect band for an upbeat, fun time for everyone!

They perform jigs, reels, waltzes, polkas and combine songs from the traditional past with contemporary Canadian songwriters.

Rig-A-Jig is a part of Victoria’s Contra Dance scene, frequently playing dances, weddings, and the VFMS year-end party.

After sixteen years, the band is still going strong with a mixture of long-time members and relative newcomers: founder Molly Raher-Newman (percussion, mandolin, lap dulcimer, voice) and veterans Ian Johnston (guitars, voice) and Dave Klassen (bass, voice) have been joined over the years by Dick Pollard (fiddle, voice), Karen Gilmore (flutes, banjo, voice), and Tom Young (fiddle, voice).

  1. Hello Deep Cove! We’re really looking forward to playing for you lovely Deep Cove folks again this year. Just wanted to let you know that Tom is no longer playing with the band (noticed that he’s listed in the band members). But the rest of us will be there!
