Completion of the Victoria sewage treatment plant may have transformed them into Revellers Without a Cause, but the Clover Point Drifters are undeterred. Subtle joke in there, for the keen observer.
Twenty-two years in, the band still pushes out a classic show of traditional bluegrass and folk standards, tight harmonies and punchy instrumentals.
The original band configuration endures: Alan Law (guitar), Larry Stevens (dobro), Mike Kraft (banjo), Dan Parker (mandolin), and George Robinson (bass)
It’s always an entertaining evening when the Drifters grace the Deep Cove stage, and this fall tonic comes highly recommended.
As usual, there will be some new tunes in the show – even some new jokes (we promise).
The Clover Point Drifters will be gracing the Deep Cove Folk stage on Friday, December 9. They are Victoria’s premiere bluegrass band that always puts on a great show—well worth coming out. It’s always a treat to hear the varying ways they combine their diverse talents to create a wonderful evening of acoustic music.
The Drifters have been around, in one form or another, since Deep Cove Folk first got started back in 1989. They were featured on our stage in February, 1990—at the beginning of DCF’s second season. Since then, they’ve appeared seven times at the Club, the latest being December, 2019. They’ve always been staunch supporters of Deep Cove Folk and have consistently provided a wonderful mix of instrumental and vocal offerings in the finest bluegrass tradition.
Their current roster of top flight instrumentalists and great vocalists solidified in 2000. It consists of:
- Mike Kraft: banjo
- Larry Stevens: dobro
- Dan Parker; mandolin
- Alan Law: guitar
- George Robinson: bass
There can be no doubt that listening to these long-time friends of Deep Cove will be a great evening—hope to see you there.
Fridays Club will begin with an open stage. These are getting better and better as our restart season is gaining momentum. Numerous great local performers have given us short samples of their musical stuff making it clear that we’re blessed to live among uncountable numbers of gifted musicians.
Overall, it promises to be a great night!
